General Questions

Where is Onyx Beauty Lab located?

We are located at street-front at 103-2689 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, BC. Our entrance is located on Pandosy Street and you can access it directly without going into the adjacent building.

Where can I park?

There is street parking available in the area and a parking lot in the building on Osprey Street. You are welcome to come in with your license plate number and we will cover your parking for the length of your appointment!

What are Onyx Beauty Lab hours?

Our hours are Tuesday & Wednesday from 9am – 4pm, Thursday 11am – 7pm, and Friday 10am – 3pm. We are not currently open on weekends.

Do I need an appointment or are walk-ins available?

We are by appointment only however, you are welcome to pop in to pick up skincare products or book an appointment when we are open. Please text us at 250-800-6888 or email info@onyxbeautylab.com.

What is the cancellation policy at Onyx Beauty Lab?

48 hours notice is required for cancellations. No-shows and last-minute cancelations will be subject to a fee as we have set this time slot aside for you specifically.

Are consultations free at Onyx Beauty Lab?

Consultation fees range from $150 – $250 and are applied towards treatments and products when investing in services within three months from the consultation date.

How much do treatments cost?

Costs can vary and depend on each patient. There are also many factors to be considered, including age, treatment areas, products, personal goals, upcoming events, and lifestyle. The Onyx Beauty Lab experience is a customized care program, ensuring your skin is considered holistically and full-face treatment is applied.

Can I travel after treatments?

Filler treatments require at least 3-4 days of no travel however, all other treatments do not impact travel schedules.

How do I know what is best for my skin?

There are many factors to consider including your skin quality, ethnicity, skin concerns, lifestyle factors and age – so this will vary patient to patient and we offer a personalized consultation to determine what is best for your skin.

What are the best ways to prevent my skin from aging?

There are many things that you can do including medical grade skincare, injectable treatments, skin health treatments and other technologies. An absolute MUST is sunscreen every single day and reapplication when outside. A minimum of 30 SPF is suggested and to be reapplied every 2-3 hours. You must reapply immediately if immersing in water.

Are skincare treatments safe?

Every procedure carries some level of risk. Most of the procedures performed at Onyx are low risk and your clinician will be sure cover any and all risks with you prior to any treatment. We also prepare you with the steps to be taken to reduce the level of risk. Safety and cleanliness is of absolute most importance to our clinic. We have experienced registered nurses and a nurse practitioner medical lead on staff. We also have procedures in place for any medical complications, equipment available, and are trained in complication management and emergency protocol in the very low chance it is ever required.

Preparing for treatments

How do I prepare for any treatment at Onyx Beauty Lab?

We ask that you please arrive for any consultation or treatment with clean skin. If you are sick or not feeling well, please reschedule your appointment. 48-hours notice is required for cancellations. No-shows and last-minute cancellations will be subject to a fee as we have this time slow aside for you specifically. If you are pregnant or lactating, please consult your Primary Care Provider or Marissa Dennis, however, only facials are permitted when pregnant. We recommend avoiding sun exposure or tanning beds for up to two weeks prior to your appointment. Please arrive at least 5 minutes early for paperwork and be ready for relaxation! For safety reasons and limited space, please arrive by yourself as children and others are not permitted.

How do I prepare for my consultation at Onyx Beauty Lab?

Please come to your appointment with clean skin and prepared to share information about your health history, lifestyle and skincare habits. Please also consider any upcoming events or important milestones and leave yourself enough time before these events for planning and preparation.  No-shows and last-minute cancellations will be subject to a fee as we have this time slow aside for you specifically. Please be on time and ready for relaxation! Please arrive by yourself, children are not allowed and there is no extra room in the treatment room for guests.

How do I prepare for any Onyx facial treatment?

Please arrive for your appointment with clean skin, on time, and ready for relaxation!

AquaFirme Facial

  • The overall treatment duration ranges from 45 to 55 minutes. You will see an immediate improvement in the quality and texture of your skin with a natural healthy glow.
  • There is minimal to no downtime with AquaFirme treatments. You can resume all normal activities as soon as your treatment is over. You might be slightly red for an hour.
  • You will see improvement in your skin after a single session. However, you can schedule an AquaFirme facial every 3-6 weeks to keep your skin looking its best.


Signature Onyx Facial

  • Before the facial begins your provider will perform a skin assessment to determine your skintype & conocerns. After your skin type has been determined the products used in your facial will be customized for your skin type.
  • You should never feel irritation or discomfort during your facial.
  • This treatment will leave you with healthy, clean, and glowing skin.
  • It is recommended to receive a facial treatment for the skin every 4-6 weeks for optimal care and results.
  • There is no downtime required after this facial.
How do I prepare for a Chemical Peel?

PRE-TREATMENT

Onyx Beauty Lab uses Alumier for chemical peels. It is recommended patients use Alumier products for 10-14 days prior to the treatment for better results and reduced risk of complications.

  • Please consult your physician or Marissa Dennis if you’re lactating. We do not permit this treatment if you are pregnant.
  • Avoid suntanning or tanning beds for two weeks or more prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid the use of Retinoid products and high levels of AHA and BHA products for a minimum of 7 days prior to treatment.

POST TREATMENT

For the following 5-7 days please follow these instructions:

  • Avoid direct sun and excessive heat exposure
  • Only use the products you’ve been provided for post-treatment care
  • Makeup can be worn after skin is done peeling (approx 2-3 days) but it is recommended to wayt 4-5 days if possible
  • Do not use a tanning bed, have any hair removal treatments, exfoliate, or have any other cosmetic procedures for at least 14 days
  •  Avoid extreme heat, exercise, and swimming for at least 2 days
How do I prepare for microneedling?

Please arrive for your appointment with clean skin, on time, and ready for relaxation!
Following your appointment, it is important to protect and provide extra care for your skin for at least 3-4 days. You can expect 24-48 hours of mild sunburn in appearance and sensation following your treatment. During the healing process, you may experience minor itching, some flaking or redness. If symptoms persist please call your treatment provider. Do not pick, squeeze, or agitate your skin during recovery.

Please avoid the following activities for up to 2 days:

  • Direct ultra-violet exposure (sun and solariums/sun beds)
  • Intensive cardio, exercise or gymnasium regimens
  • Excessively hot showers, bathing, spas or sauna
  • Further aesthetic treatments (including, but not limited to, microdermabrasion, laser, intense pulsed light,chemical peels, and dermal fillers)
  • Spray or self-tanning
  • Swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean
  • Tattooing (including cosmetic tattooing)

Please avoid the use of skin care products containing any of the following active resurfacing ingredients for up to 5 days following a microneedling treatment:

• Mechanical exfoliants (scrubs)
• Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) (including, but not limited to, glycolic, lactic or malic acid)

How do I prepare for PRP skin treatments?

PRE-PROCEDURE

  • Please arrive for your appointment with clean skin, on time, and ready for relaxation!
  • Consume 6-8 glasses of water per day for the two days prior to the treatment date. Optimal levels of hydration will maximize biostimulating matrix volume and ensure sufficient volume during the procedure.
  • A low fat diet two days prior to the treatment date is advised.
  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to the procedure. Alcohol dehydrates the body and minimizes the volume and concentration of BSM.
  • Avoid caffeine the day of the treatment
  • Avoid Advil for 48 hours prior to
  • Avoid Omega vitamins/ supplements 48 prior to treatment


POST-PROCEDURE

Following the treatment you may experience minor soreness, pain, or bruising. This is normal and may last for up to one week post treatment. Swelling is also normal and anticipated. This usually only lasts 1-2 days but may last longer.

  • For relief you may ice the swollen ares for 15 minutes, 3-4 times a day until the swelling resolves.
  • Please avoid putting any makeup on skin for at least 24 hours after treatment. Please only use a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen only for the next 72 hours. You may resume your normal skincare routine after 72 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous activities (including workouts) for 48 hours after the procedure
How do I prepare for dermal filler appointments?

PRE-TREATMENT:

  • Please schedule your appointment at least 4-6 weeks before any big events to allow time for healing and any touch-ups or tweak
  • Please arrive for your appointment with clean skin, on time, and ready for relaxation!
  • Eat within an hour ahead of time to avoid feeling faint or light-headed
  • Arrive without makeup and clean skin
  • Reschedule if you have any rashes, cold sores, or wounds in the area to be treated or if you are sick (cold symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.)
  • To minimize your risk of bruising, consider avoiding stimulants (caffeine, alcohol, green tea, ginger, gingko biloba), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (ie. Advil), and omega 3-high foods or supplements

PLEASE NOTE

You are not eligible for dermal fillers if you have any active infection on the face or in the body, or any vaccinations in the past 4 weeks (it is advised not to have any vaccinations in the 4 weeks following treatment)


POST-TREATMENT

Following your appointment, please schedule a 4 week follow-up and take your prescribed medications if prone to cold sores. You can expect some mild bruising and tenderness. Please gently ice any swollen areas for relief.

Please follow these instructions post-treatment:

  • No massage or manipulation the area treated for 48 hours
  • No hot tubs, saunas, or strenuous activities for 48 hours
  • No makeup to the treated area for 24 hours
  • No alcohol for 24 hours post treatment
  • Avoid strong mouth movements (sucking on a straw or puckering ) for 24-48 hours after lip filler
  • No massage or sustained pressure to face (laying on massage table, wearing tight ski goggles) for 2 weeks following mid-face, chin, or jawline filler

PLEASE NOTE

Results take up to 4 weeks to fully settle/integrate.

Wait at least 2 weeks before evaluating your results unless there is a concern.

Call immediately if experiencing abnormal pain, pale or dusky discoloration, herpes-like lesions (especially if not prone to cold sores).

How do I prepare for neuromodulator (ie. botox) appointments?

PRE-PROCEDURE

  • Please arrive for your appointment with clean skin, on time, and ready for relaxation!
  • Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs, ASA, Omega 3s, ginger, and gingko biloba for a few days beforehand to reduce your risk of bruising


POST-PROCEDURE

Following the treatment you may experience minor soreness, or bruising. This is normal and may last for up to one week post treatment.

  • You may continue with regular activities
  • Please schedule your 2-week follow-up appointment
  • Schedule your retreatments before the medication is worn off (usually every 3-4 months)
  • NO massage or manipulation for 2 hours after treatment
  • NO hot tubs, saunas or strenuous activities for 2 hours after TX

NO makeup to the treated area for at least 4 hours

PLEASE NOTE

  • Results take up to 14 days to fully appear
  • Results may appear in different areas at different times
  • Wait until the full 14 days before evaluating your results
