Step One: Observation & Inquiry
The first step to creating the right skincare routine is to examine it. Here are some questions you can ask yourself:
What’s the current state of my skin?
Does my skin look and feel healthy?
Am I seeing anything new in my skin?
Do I have concerns about my skin?
Have I been using the same products for several months or even years?
Step Two: See a Skin Expert
Once you’ve had a chance to examine your skin it’s important to speak with a skin expert. If you have serious concerns about your skin or health you should visit your family doctor. If you’re unsure or don’t feel your concerns are serious you can visit Onyx Beauty Lab and speak with one of our specialists here in Kelowna. Even if you’ve had a consultation with us recently there could be changes occurring in your skin that can be addressed with a quick assessment and simple adjustments.
Step Three: Start with the Basics
Note: the products you choose will depend on your skin type, concerns, and long-term goals.
While there are many things you can do for your skin, we believe it’s important to get the basics right first. Especially if you’re new to skincare. Here are the steps we believe are crucial for healthy skin and the products we love and use ourselves (and carry in the clinic!).
- Cleansing – Two Times Daily
Once in the morning, once a night. Some of our staff favourites include: Alumier Purifying Gel Cleanser, Colorescience Barrier Pro, and Alumier Hyrdaboost. - Moisturizer – Two Times Daily
Your skin will have its own needs, which is why it’s important to be sure you’re using the right product and consult with a skin expert. We love Skinbetter Science TRIO for dry skin, Hydraclarite for oily skin, and Hydradew for combination skin. Use these after your morning and nightly cleansing. - Sunscreen – Every Morning, Reapplied Every 2 hours
We’re a broken record, we know. But don’t skip the sunscreen – ever! Daily use, applied every 2 hours, minimum SPF 30. Yes, even on cloudy days. Yes, even in winter!
Step Four: Introduce Antioxidants, including Vitamin C
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’re ready to introduce antioxidants. Be sure to eat a healthy diet rich in antioxidants and boost your skin’s protection with a product like Skinbetter Science ALTO Advanced and a Vitamin C serum, like Dermamade or Alumier Vitamin C. Step Five: Supercharge your Skincare
